Stuttering is a communication disorder that affects a relatively small percentage of the population. Incidence is about 5% with those persisting beyond childhood resulting in the 1% who stutter worldwide. Those affected by this physiological/socioemotional disorder can experience extreme difficulty in situations in which communication is most meaningful to them. A lifetime of negative communication experiences can lead to both social and emotional disability. Early intervention is the key, but it is never too late to receive quality therapy and make a positive change in communication ability.
